About APRUS Technologies

From Engineering Curiosity to Electrosurgical Innovation

APRUS Technologies is a Pakistan-based medical technology company focused on the development and manufacturing of high-frequency electrosurgical generators.

Where the Journey Began — 2013

The APRUS journey did not begin with the formation of a company. It began with engineering curiosity, hands-on experimentation and a determination to develop medical technology locally.

The roots of APRUS go back to the early exposure of Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Rafiq to medical equipment through his father, who worked as a technician in a public-sector hospital in Peshawar. Seeing medical equipment, electronics and hospital technology from an early age helped develop an interest that would later become focused engineering work.

In 2013, Mohsin began dedicated research and development of a high-frequency electrosurgical generator. The first prototype was developed in December 2013, marking the beginning of what would eventually become APRUS Technologies.

Muhammad Nouman Rafiq joined Mohsin in the early journey, and the two brothers worked together as the technology progressed from experimentation and prototypes toward a commercially viable medical-device platform.

What started as an engineering project gradually developed into a long-term commitment to building electrosurgical technology in Pakistan.

From Prototype to Product

Between 2014 and 2017, the focus remained heavily technical: improving the electrosurgical-generator platform, gaining practical experience, understanding hospital requirements and moving the technology closer to commercial application.

This period established the engineering foundation on which APRUS would later be built.

Rather than beginning as a medical-equipment trading company and subsequently entering manufacturing, APRUS developed in the opposite direction: the technology came first, and the company was built around it.

That engineering-first philosophy remains central to APRUS today.

NIC Peshawar & Company Formation — 2018

A major transition occurred in 2018, when the venture entered the National Incubation Center (NIC) Peshawar.

The incubation environment provided APRUS with greater exposure to entrepreneurship, business development, mentorship and commercialization while the founders continued developing the underlying technology.

During the inauguration of NIC Quetta in May 2018, APRUS technology was presented by Mohsin to then Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, representing an important early milestone in the company's journey.

In the same year, APRUS Technologies (Private) Limited was formally established, marking the transition from an engineering venture into a structured medical-technology company.

Building Recognition

As APRUS moved from engineering development toward commercialization, the company and its technology began receiving recognition within Pakistan's technology and startup ecosystem.

APRUS also successfully completed its incubation journey at NIC Peshawar. These achievements represented an important stage in APRUS's evolution from an engineering project into an emerging medical-technology enterprise.

2019–2022 — Investment, Partnership & Commercial Growth

As APRUS progressed from incubation toward wider commercialization, its relationship with the NIC Peshawar ecosystem opened another important chapter in the company's development.

Ayub Zakori, then Chairman of the National Incubation Center Peshawar Advisory Board, became involved with APRUS and subsequently joined the company as an investor and partner, serving as President during this period.

His involvement brought additional business experience, networks and investment perspective as APRUS worked toward strengthening its commercial position and expanding beyond its startup stage.

Hira Irshad, who had been part of the NIC Peshawar team, subsequently joined APRUS as CEO and partner. Her involvement contributed to the company's organizational development, commercial positioning and market-development activities during this phase.

This period brought additional business leadership and investment experience alongside the engineering foundation established by APRUS's founders. It represented an important chapter in transforming APRUS from an engineering-led startup into a more structured medical-technology business.

Founder Leadership

Transition Back to Founder Leadership

Following this chapter of expanded partnership and management, APRUS transitioned back to its founding leadership.

The company entered its next phase with renewed emphasis on its core strengths: electrosurgical engineering, product development, manufacturing capability, quality systems and sustainable commercial growth.

Today, APRUS is founder-owned and founder-governed, with its technology, business strategy and long-term direction led by Founder Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Rafiq and Co-Founder Muhammad Nouman Rafiq.

This structure brings the company's engineering vision, commercial direction and long-term decision-making back together under the founding team that began the APRUS journey.

APRUS Today

Today, APRUS is focused on a specialized field rather than attempting to become a general medical-equipment company.

Its core product family is built around high-frequency electrosurgical energy, currently represented by ALPHA SMART, ALPHA 1.0 IR and ALPHA 1.0 IRSL.

The company's quality framework includes certification to ISO 13485:2016, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, with certification scope presented according to the respective certificates.

APRUS continues to develop its capabilities for hospitals, healthcare institutions, distributors and selected international/OEM opportunities.

More Than a Decade of Electrosurgical Development

From the first prototype in 2013, through incubation, company formation, recognition, investment, expanded management and the transition back to founder leadership, APRUS has passed through several distinct stages.

What has remained constant is the company's connection to the technology on which it was founded.

APRUS's objective is to continue building specialized electrosurgical technology from Pakistan while strengthening product quality, manufacturing capability, clinical relevance and international commercial reach.

Our Direction

Engineering-led. Founder-governed. Focused on electrosurgery.

APRUS is entering its next chapter with a clear objective: to strengthen its position as a specialized electrosurgical technology manufacturer and build long-term relationships with hospitals, surgeons, biomedical professionals, distributors and international partners.
